Tsoknyi Gechak School: A Blend of Modern Education and Buddhist Training

Tsoknyi Gechak School serves as the primary and lower secondary educational institution for school-aged nuns at Tsoknyi Gechak Ling. The school seamlessly integrates modern education with traditional Buddhist spiritual training, nurturing the innate goodness, compassion, and wisdom of its students.

At the Tsoknyi Gechak School, students follow the full Nepali government curriculum, which is enriched with field trips, art, mindfulness, project work, and other creative activities that promote active learning. Alongside their academic studies, students immerse themselves in traditional Buddhist monastic training, learning ritual practices, meditation, and memorising sacred texts. The UNESCO award-winning Rato Bangala Foundation provided a tailor-made teacher training program for the school’s teaching staff for two years. Tsoknyi Gechak School now offers its own in-house training program for new staff, continuously evolving and growing with the support of international mentors and friends.

In addition, Tsoknyi Gechak School runs a volunteer English teacher programme, which has welcomed numerous volunteers from the around the world including the UK. These volunteers dedicate their time to teaching English to the nuns while experiencing the unique atmosphere of living within the nunnery.
